1^st International Workshop on

MRI Phase Contrast and Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping

Join us in Dornburg, Germany, for the 1^st International Workshop on MRI Phase Contrast and Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping. The meeting will be held in the Gothic-style Old Castle Dornburg from Friday January 14^th to Saturday 15^th, 2011.

A major goal of the workshop is to establish future research trends as well as to initiate and promote scientific collaboration between groups working in this upcoming field of neuroscience. Thus, the workshop represents an excellent entry point for groups without extensive knowledge in this field

Poster presentation

We are pleased to announce that there will be the possibility to present a few additional posters during the workshop. Although there will be no dedicated poster session, we expect that your poster will initiate fruitful discussions with other participants during coffee breaks and lunch time.

If you like to exhibit a poster, please submit a very short abstract of your research (including author names, affiliation and title) to qsm_workshopmed.uni-jenade until December 15th, 2010. The abstract should not be longer than 200 words. We will review your abstracts and accept a limited number of poster contributions depending on the space availableat the conference venue. Accepted abstracts will be included in the meeting booklet.

The maximum poster size is limited to 1.2m x 1.5m (width x height).

Social Program

Additionally to the regular conference program, we are offering two off-site social events before and after the workshop:

All participants are invited to join the ice-breaker meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday January 13^th, 2011 in Jena downtown. The ice-breaker meeting will be held in the restaurant "Gatto Bello" (Johannisplatz 16, 07743 Jena).
For participants staying until Sunday January 16^th, 2011, there will be a guided tour through the historic center of Jena concluding with traditional Thuringian lunch. The total expenses for this third day are not included in the registration fee but will certainly not exceed 50 EUR. Please register for this event during your conference registration.

Your participation in both off-site meetings will be highly appreciated.

Conference Registration

Early registration is now open until Nov 7, 2010. The early registration fee is 350.00 Euro (for members of academic institutions). This registration fee includes ice-breaker meeting, conference, evening program, lunch, and coffee breaks. Note that the off-site meeting on January 16^th, 2011 is not included.

After Nov 7, 2010 a late surcharge of 150.00 EUR will be added to the early registration fee.

The registration fee for members of non-academic institutions is 700.00 Euro.

Shuttle Service To Dornburg

From Jena to Dornburg

The easiest way to get to Dornburg is to take the conference shuttle bus. The bus will depart in front of the Steigenberger Esplanade Hotel (Carl-Zeiss-Platz 4; rear of the Goethe Galerie mall; see Map of Jena, bus sign) at 8:20 on Friday and Saturday. If you want to use the shuttle bus, please come in good time to avoid delays.

From Dornburg to Jena

The conference shuttle bus will return to the shuttle bus stop in Jena at the end of the day, e.g. 17:15 on Friday and 17:55 on Saturday.

Directions

Traveling to Jena by Train

Jena is serviced by two major stations, namely Jena Paradies and Jena West. Both stations are within walking distance to downtown Jena. Trains running between Berlin, Leipzig, and Munich (i.e. North-South) service Jena Paradies. Trains running from Frankfurt to Dresden (i.e. West-East) service Weimar, where a connecting train will bring you to Jena West.

Traveling to Jena by Plane

Nearby international airports are Erfurt (70 km), Altenburg (75 km), Leipzig/Halle (100 km), Berlin (260 km), Frankfurt (310 km), and Munich (360 km).

From Erfurt Airport

Erfurt Airport is probably the most convenient airport for getting to and from Jena, however, flights to and from there are limited. Airlines flying to Erfurt are: Cirrus Airlines, Lufthansa, and Air Berlin.

Take public transportation from Erfurt Airport to the Erfurt Central station (Erfurt Hbf). The tram stop is directly in front of the terminal and the city rail line 4 gets you to the train station in no time. The city rail operates on this route every 10 minutes (on weekdays) and takes 25 minutes. At the Erfurt Central station take the regional express train (RE) to Jena West (operates hourly).

From Altenburg Airport

Altenburg Airport is only serviced by Ryan Air, and only has regular connections from London Stansted, Alicante, and Barcelona Girona. The airport is serviced by a bus that will deliver you to Altenburg train station (15 min). There are some direct trains from Altenburg train station to Jena West (80 min).

From Leipzig/Halle Airport

From many European destinations you can book a flight to Leipzig/Halle airport. Take the regional trains FlughafenExpress (Deutsche Bahn) or Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn (Veolia) from Leipzig/Halle Airport to Leipzig Central station (Leipzig Hbf). The rail operates on this route every 30 minutes and takes 15 minutes. At Leipzig Central station take the high-speed train (ICE) to Jena Paradies (operates hourly, takes 60 minutes).

From Berlin Schönefeld Airport

At the Schoenefeld airport the exits leading to the regional train station are clearly marked. A covered walkway leads from the terminal to the station. The Airport Express takes just 28 minutes from Schoenefeld airport to the Berlin Central station (Berlin Hbf). The specially identified regional train lines RE7 and RB14 run every half hour. Local public transport tickets are accepted on these trains. The journey is within fare zone C. At Berlin Central station take the high-speed train (ICE) to Jena Paradies (operates hourly, takes 2 hours).

From Berlin Tegel Airport

The Airport Express (TXL) takes just 20 minutes from the airport to Berlin Central station (Berlin Hbf). At Berlin Central station take the high-speed train (ICE) to Jena Paradies (operates hourly, takes 2 hours).

From Frankfurt Airport

Frankfurt am Main Airport is Germany's main international airport. Take the high-speed train (ICE or IC) to Weimar leaving from the long-distance train station (Fern) on Level 3 of the AIRail Terminal. The trains operate hourly on this route every 60 minutes and take 2.5 hours. At Weimar train station take the regional train (RE or RB) to Jena West (operates every 30 minutes, takes 20 minutes).

Traveling to Jena by Car

The major highways servicing Jena are the A4, which runs east-west, and the A9 which runs north south.

Coming from the North or South (Highway A9 Berlin-Munich): Take the Exit #24 (Hermsdorfer Kreuz), and then merge onto the A4 toward Erfurt and Frankfurt a.M. Then, after 18 km, take Exit #54 (Jena-Lobeda) to merge onto Stadtrodaer Str./B88 towards Jena Zentrum. After about 6 km, this road will bring you to downtown Jena.

General Information

Note that train tickets must be purchased (online at www.bahn.de, at the Deutsche Bahn ticket vending machines or counters at the train station) prior to entering a regional train. Up-to-date information on transportation schedules and prices is available at www.bahn.de. We recommend seat reservation for high speed trains (extra fee: 2.50 EUR).

Jena downtown is within walking distance of both train stations, Jena Paradies and Jena West. Taxicabs operate twenty-four-seven and should be available at both train stations. You can also arrange for a taxicab in advance by calling +49-3641-458888. The fare usually does not exceed 10 EUR for destinations in Jena downtown.

Winter Weather

January weather in Thuringia is generally pleasant. Average high temperatures are 10°C (50 F) and lows are -15°C (5 F). There is a high chance the sky will be sunny, and only 36mm (1 inch) of precipitation falls during the month, on average.

Visa Requirements For Entry Into Germany

EU and EEA (European Economic Area) nationals may enter Germany using either a passport or a national identity document. All other foreigners require a visa for stays in Germany, unless the European Community has abolished the visa requirement for your country. Visas are issued by the German diplomatic representatives responsible for the area in which the applicant has his/her ordinary residence or domicile. The fee for all types of visas is EUR 60.

If you require a formal supporting letter stating your participation in the conference in order to secure a visa of entry into Germany, please contact the Organizing Committee. We will be pleased to send you a letter of invitation. However, the letter will not imply any commitment or responsibility on behalf of the conference to provide financial support. Please contact us in good time since the duly signed invitation letter has to be sent by mail to you.
